New Busts by Jake Waldron
For something decidedly not "designer art toy" but ultimately awesome, is Jake Waldron's first two silicone busts posted above, and ready to be purchased. Featuring a drifter in a far-away fantasy-land (yes, that is a real mouse skull), and a denizen of a warped Victorian court (both my description+impressions), with both busts standing 6 inches tall, and are available via Jake's bigcartel for US$225 each.
Jake added: "Silicone is awesome. It feels and looks like real skin and it lets me punch in hair to look like its really growing out of the skin." ~ Indeed!
We last posted about Jake's work for the CURIOSITIES Group Show at Rivet in 2009 (where I also discovered Amanda Spayd's work for the first time), in which his ethereal characters creations both delighted and makes you squirm a tad, and I like that somehow, makes life much more interesting, methinks :)
