And The Winner of Best Use of Color in the Designing GupGups Contest Is...
Is "Private Bomber" by Rickard Johansson! CONGRATULATIONS!
"There have been numerous submissions which burst the rainbow and filled my vision with fantastical visual-scapes of the color-spectrum, but the use of color in a way to describe your designs and the story that comes along with it, can be narrowed down to a select few. And from this chosen few, one sole design had to be picked, and Rickard's PRIVATE BOMBER stood out, with it's battlefield allure and muted color-combination. "War" has never looked so splendid!" ~ Andy Heng, DesigningGupGups-Judge.
"I never expected a win, and am very happy that it was the BEST USE OF COLOR award.
The whole purpose with the piece was to play around with the contrasts of blue and orange. (I am a sucker for turquoise, deep chocolate brown, creme and fierce orange, and never really want to leave home without them)." ~Rickard
"I used these two colors against a simple gray backdrop so that they could dominate the design. The gritty fabric VS the glossy plastic gloves was an accidental bonus while I painted the detail pass. However, the head tattoo was an intended addition, to add more story elements to poor Sigmund's background." ~adds Rickard
"Also, this was the third sketch I did - first two being different versions of the "goldfish-in-a-bowl" theme. But then I realized the shape would be perfect for a very sad little bomb-carrying unlucky soldier; A massive weight pushing him into the ground!" ~arounds up Rickard
