Toys For STGCC 2011

And while I can easily lament the lack of 'art toys' available at Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2011 [www / Tagged] this year, this above image perhaps personifies the event for me - a mixture of genres seeing western-based coarse-product framed by a eastern anime-classic character made toy. And directly below this shelf was a full-on anime-fest of figurines, popular to the masses which thong the event in general.

Who can not recognize characters from Evangelion, Dragonball and Pokimon? The characters have become so widely accepted by the geek-masses, their country-of-origin has become something unnecessary to even mention. For sure they have their media outlets to thank for their infamy(comicsbooks, tv shows, toys, cosplay) - it literally means folks spend less time trying to tell the story of the characters to others for sale, which perhaps might hamper folks getting their characters out there, IMHO.

Nevertheless, variety seems the key to any geek-convention, and while thankfully we have Andrew Bell's O-No-Sashimi and even Tokidoki's Zip and Cody as a particular Singapore-product tailored for STGCC (yes, I'll even count the involvement of SingPost as such lol), I can only hope more brands take the chance to consider producing convention exclusives (for this event, of course) - regardless what their bottom-line might be, rather than stuff "left over" from previous events internationally, which frankly leaves me livid.
