Toy-Review: Deep Sea Dracula by Keith Poon
TOY-STORY: Standing about 5" tall and limited to only 50 pieces - the clear resin piece black-n-red True Blood Version-colorway of Deep Sea Dracula was debut at San Diego Comic Con in July 2011. Designed by Keith Poon - and is currently available via toyqube.com for US$$64.99).
The packaging for this figure is the more "straight-forward" one i've seen thus far of art toys. A rudimentary cardboard box with a signature up top from the artist, and within it is the figure wrapped in a plastic bag and kept in paper-shavings. That's it. Frankly sorta leaves the allure of 'art toys' pretty much in the back-burner here, aaah but tis what's inside that counts, right?
The main aspect of the figure that 'got' to me, were the little details - like the minute red-dots on the figure's head, and the exceptionally cool translucent-tinted quality of the webbed areas. The finishing for the figure is superb with no blemishes or obvious imperfections.
With zero articulation, this might what you call an "art toy statuette", and follows the marine design-theme of Keith Poon's previous products - like Sharky and Kanizas. So if you're a fan, this would make a swell addition to your collection. As a figurine of the 'resin persuasion', this is a pretty nice representation of such, and it is thusly because of the material, that provides it with that "value" compared to it being a vinyl piece, IMHO.
