Toy-Review: Ankou EX from ThreeA Toys
I was not a huge fan of Ankou in it's first humanoid-body-frame incarnation, but was charmed somewhat by online images of the robot-evolved ANKOU EX, and bit the bullet and ordered two editions (of course they were the darker-colored editions, as per my personal preference). When I received my Fat Drown and Shadowland Security Editions from ThreeA Toys, I was blown away by how HUGE the figures where, and how much of a grin they had given my face upon opening and posing with them! The fabric-clothes somehow work better for a figure of this size, and the detailing are as amazing.
Each figure comes boxed individually, and includes a huge fold-out poster with a comic-strip featuring Ankou EX. Nice touch this - their poster inserts adds flavor to an already awesome toy, IMHO.
FAT DROWN comes with a fabric 'dirty' track-suit. What I like abut this figure, is that once you zipper down the suit, you'll get to see the painted-robot-body beneath. No short cutes here! I have yet to totally strip down the figure to see it's build underneath, and frankly I may not, as I am happy with what I have and need not explore any further (as I technically "should", for this review anyways :p). What YOU folks what to see more underneath the suit?
SHADOWLAND comes with an array of fabric pouches and battle-webbing - which come stuffed with foam instead of just flattened cloth bags (making them more visually 'appealing' for me personally!) - along with an additional robot-head, which can be interchangable/removable with the existing one on Ankou-EX. Sweet touch for both happenstance, IMHO.
I've always had a healthy desire for 'chunky'-framed toys (ever since Eric So's PHAS02 figures) and this figure had turned out to be one of my absolute favorites for 2011, if not from 3A Toys (on par with their ABC Warrior: Mongrol figure). For reference sakes, the figures were on pre-order in May and had a SRP of US$160 per (inclusive shipping / sans 3AA-discount). 5 editions were made available, including a 6th 2-Pack set. As usual, there are no quantities mentioned for these editions.
