About That 'Live' Action Gatchaman Movie
"The classic Tatsunoko Productions science-fiction hero anime Science Ninja Team Gatchaman is getting a live-action film adaptation from the production company Nikkatsu and the distributor TOHO next summer. Director Toya Sato (live-action Grave of the Fireflies, Sexy Voice and Robo, Kaiji, Gokusen) will begin shooting the film on October 15. Yūsuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz, Bloody Monday, 2013 Dragon Ball Z film) wrote the script, and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed films) is designing the characters." ~reported Anime News Network.
To say I'm excited with this prospect, might be a mild understatement [READ] and while recent adaptations might not have been exactly Earth-shattering (Yamato was entertaining but that was it), I am still looking forward with glee what the future might hold! Check out their official website recently gone "live" at www.gatchaman-movie.jp. GATCHAMAN premieres the Summer of 2013.
And I can only hope the movie does get completed and screened, unlike the disappointment that was the Imagi Studios' animated feature that never saw the light of day.
The closest we've ever gotten to see a "live" action Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets, was this commercial for NTT's CM (a Japanese internet carrier) featuring the members from J-Pop group SMAP!
