GOODBYE2012/HELLO2013: Kevin Winnik
TOYSREVIL: Share with us your most triumphant moment in 2012.
KEVIN WINNIK: Launching outsmART originals - with my previous company (Toy2R USA) I was able to explore some incredible designs by talented artists from across the globe and help them make their mark on the world. It is exciting to be able to continue working these great artists as we take on the 2D world and look towards 2013 with hopes of some 3D projects. Big thanks to every artist I had the privilege to work with in the past and those who have come out to support the new outsmART project.
To my first team of avengers: Jon-Paul Kaiser, RSIN, Scott Tolleson, Pocket Wookie, Sergio Mancini - I give you thanks my brothers! Benny at Tenacious Toys - what a resource and what a great friend! And of course the unsung heroes of the blogosphere … without you, our voice could not be heard…thank you.
TOYSREVIL: What is your most favorite toy, or piece of art you've seen in 2012?
KEVIN WINNIK: Captain Sturnbrau by Jon-Paul Kaiser. Not just because it was a figure that was released by my previous company, but that JPK was so much fun and so easy to work with, considering all of the new sculpting and design changes that the figure went through.
Since the beginning he has been a blast to work with and I'm fortunate enough to have him continue creating stunning designs for outsmART - especially our current release, the GRRR! Gorilla tee that just dropped. The way we work together, its hard to believe there are thousands of miles between us. Guess that's a good thing or else the two of us would be stuck in a pub somewhere not getting any work done!
TOYSREVIL: What are you most looking forward to in 2013?
KEVIN WINNIK: While we have only produced 6 limited edition shirts in the last few months, 2013 will be challenging as we continue with apparel releases but also launch other printed material as well as potential vinyl / resin releases. First up for 2013, we have new designs waiting to drop from Jason Chalker, VISE ONE, JFURY, DGPH, Scott Kinnebrew, Frank Mysterio, Luihz Unreal, RSIN, Fuller Designs and many more. Always evolving and always new - seriously cool stuff for the ART-official intelligent!
