Happy Chinese New Year!
Happy Chinese New Year, people! Or at least it is now a moment past midnight in Singapore, a night/day that kids stay up as late as they can with their parents in a Chinese tradition known as "Shou3 Yeh3" (literally meaning "Keeping Guard At Night") a literal metaphor for keeping awake and accompanying your parents / elders for as "late" as you can, for their blessings and good health.
The Heng Family keeps awake by watching television together, via multiple celebratory specials (mostly from China tv stations lol), and counting down the midnight hour!
For the past couple of years, I have been online. Hoping this year'll be different (this is a scheduled blogpost after all ;p) and I'll be sitting right in front of the google box, right alongside my parents, and trying my best to resist the temptations if wolfing down the new year goodies spread before me LOL
DID YOU KNOW? That via Chinese tradition, past the midnight hour, you are not supposed to be carrying anything sharp, or be cutting anything or sweeping the floor/s, as it signifies "bad luck" and "sweeping away good fortune"? So folks doing their spring cleaning are to take note, that is if your elders have not drilled this notion in you before already LOL
