A Closer Look at "CULTURED" by SKL0 x Mighty Jaxx (pre-order at #STGCC 2013)
This needs to have it's own blogpost, with Mighty Jaxx producing local artist SKL0's concept piece named "CULTURED" (Previously Featured) with a play on something folks might have on their refrigerator.
The conceptual tagline goes: "A play and commentary on our unique local culture"
Frankly I was not too "convinced" of (sorry, Sam!), but just as soon changed my tune when I held a proto in my hand, when I visited the MJ-HQ. It was not similar sized as the regular drink is, and the heft of the resin piece somewhat lends itself to the weight of the issue, giving further depth to the humor in the text printed on the piece: "More Cultured Than YOU Will Ever Be".
And the aesthetic touches - like the debossed text and SKL0's logo - made it a fun piece to be had. Hey, I'm a grapefruit-fan (*raises hands if you love Ribena* lol) so the purple piece brought a smile to my face. Now if the set came shrink-wrapped (with subversive text printed on it, of course), it would be awesome haha!
Each colorway (4 "flavors" to choose from) is priced at SGD$50 per, while a set of the complete four is SGD$170. Pre-orders will be available at the Mighty Jaxx booths G6 / G8 / G10 at Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention 2013, with a late-October 2013 ship out.
Samantha Lo is also a fellow RSCLS member as Clogtwo, who's Hell Lotus was MJ's first ever release, and this notion both excites and puts a proud smile on my face. Locals Represent!
