Toy-Reviews: McDonaldland Plushies
Currently on sale at McDonald's fast food restaurants in Singapore, are plush versions of their characters. With 5 characters in total to collect, here's a quick look at what's in store for folks!
Essentially the plush is housed in a printed carton box with a window cut-out (there is no plastic cover), sealed in a plastic baggie. Each box is printed with a listing of the characteristics of the McD character.
Upon first impressions, I like the "Super-Deformed" design and look of their forms, but when you check them out sideways, they seem "flatter" than their front-aesthetics make them out to be, which is hilarious to me ;p
Priced at SGD$2.90 each, they can be bought along with any meal at McD, and are not specific Happy Meal Toys (on offer instead is Paul Frank's JULIUS). The upcoming characters are RONALD MCDONALD and finally OFFICER BIG MAC.
The characters are released one design each week, (every Thursday will see a new design), and this week is GRIMACE! The week before was BIRDIE (this one belonged to my sis), while HAMBURGLAR was the first plush to be released two weeks ago (now this belonged to my brother).
Personally, I appreciate that McDonalds have their own "in-house" characters to utilize and expand upon, rather than just license other properties, IMHO.
"WHY REVIEW MCDONALDS TOYS?" ~ you might ask? The reality is, that is where one of the majority of the toy-culture in Singapore - for the general public - lies. And it is no longer just something to placate the children with, adults also get into the collecting "fever", and even indulge in the after-sales market. Why pay more for an "art toy" or "designer collectible", when you can have a much cheaper toy to own, and to fill your belly at the same time?
I cannot answer that question, and perhaps that is not meant to be answered, as both genres cater to different consumers, isn't it?
I just know that there are alternatives to be had, when my wallet is stretched, and I need my toy-fix sated LOL
