#LookBack AUGUST 2014

And while convention season had started in July, things push forward in the final quarter of the year in August, with promos in anticipation for September's STGCC and some Popcon Asia 2014 news.

August is likened to a month of "catching breath" - the "last breath" of 2014, actually - in anticipation of more events to come, every other month until the end of the year.

I still remember blogging years back when folks had lamented that they had tapped out their own expenditure by the time SDCC ended … now, folks know and expect more to come, and perhaps are more conscious of "spending"?

With more practicing artists and toy-producers these days than ever before, there are more products to choose from, and hence more event-targeted "exclusives", and at the same time, unless you are artist-specific-follower, the excitement is palpable. "Indie" artists get to the fore, while more "established" folks seemed to play it more conservatively.

And while there is more eye-candy and desires to be had by all, "expenditure" is spread across … But with new collectors entering the scene, everybody gets to have a taste of something thought of more as "exclusive" and underground, than say a decade ago. Near everything is reachable and attainable, if you have internet and money to spend. Things only seem "special" when you cannot attain it, perhaps?

There is a sort of uneasy balance struck here between supply and demand, but then again, I have not been a steady procurer of collectibles this year, so can hardly offer anything else other than my personal impressions of what I see (versus "what I know"). When the demand outweighs the supply, folks see the "exclusivity" and maybe even more "value" in their wants, hence the distinctiveness of the "art toy" scene that I remembered it to be when I started blogging about them … the fear is to have it become yet another generic marketplace with niche products … "over-thinking" much? LOL

Next month on, no time to ponder such things muahahahaha
