My Impressions for “Love Death + Robots” & "Inside The Animation"
Netflix has since unleashed a slew of BTS/behind-the-scenes making-of featurettes for their animated anthology series "LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS" - which I highly recommend for your viewing considerations (*Watch on Netflix), featuring a line-up of 18 stand-alone episodes/short films (no longer than 20-minute each story), none of whom are connected to each other in terms of storylines (*Which seems to be THE way of world-building these days), and wholly watchable independent of each other.
This Season is very aptly rated "R21" (In Singapore), and certainly does feature nudity/sexual happenings, although not necessarily in ALL episodes, but the general commentary (at least on my social media feeds) are that folks could do without them, but I differ in opinion. Folks familiar with the "Heavy Metal" anthology from the past, would be more than familiar with the level of sexuality in the stories might entail, IMHO ... But understandably, it is not meant for mass public consumption or comfortability.
As saucy and mildly salacious as the naughty-bits were (*More straight-up with a S&M-twist rather than anything resembling "hentai"), the primary focus of the select genres certainly feed a specific appetite for the collective geekdom of the kidult (excluding the "super-hero" trope), with a heavy-twitch for video games hyper-visuals, and the cel-art of nostalgia whispered during growing up, methinks. The result is glorious, but not necessarily "life-altering", except for the fact that a project such as THIS has been presented to the self-restricted masses, and if you have not read the multiple warnings by now: This is to your saturday morning cartoons of youth.
Like I said: GLORIOUS.
The series is "presented by Tim Miller and David Fincher", which provides the name recognition and a somewhat expectation of the proceedings, for which I myself am satisfied with. Tim Miller is featured in video interview above.
I am hoping to further delve into select individual episodes in time ... but in case my "plan" falters, I have since posted the "Inside The Animation" videos HERE on POPCORNX, besides the following BTS for the first episode: "Sonnie's Edge" (17 minutes). Mind you, these are very short peeks into the massive undertaking needed to bring these projects to your viewing pleasures, but no doubt serves as a "promo" for the series as well, IMHO.
