Introducing The Neozapoteca Collection by Camote Toys

Camote Toys released a new collection of figures for his solo show "Neozapoteca", all of whom are handmade ceramic toy sculptures - sized between 5.25" to 7" tall, finished in burnished and glazed clay.

As you can see from the character designs, they are characters with modern "professions" interpreted as ancient tribal figurines! Gotta love the "The Muralist"! Can you figure out which figure that is? :)

ARTWORK: "Neozapoteca has interest in archaeological contexts and evidences of crafts and activities within the pre-hispanic Zapotec culture, creating a dialogue across time to propose extended narratives from “new” social reinterpretations in the current globalized context.

Camote Toys' work in Oaxaca is the result of a practice based on the research of ancestral heritage, traditions and materials. In this case, he took ceramics as a key trigger in history, a material loaded with time, a measure of advancement in society and a resource that requires natural elements for its transformation.

*Each one of the pieces was made with local clay and techniques from different communities in Oaxaca."

The Muralist, The Messenger, and La Catrina are currently available online via camotetoys.storenvy.com, there are each priced at US$125 per, each one-off piece come boxed with original artwork and includes a wooden base and certificate of authenticity. (*The Corn Vendor and The Player since listed as Sold Out at time of this blogpost).
