The long-awaited teaser trailer for upcoming new Star Wars streaming series "OBI-WAN KENOBI" has dropped, for the series premiering May 25 on Disney+.
The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie (Below Cast screengrab via IMDb).
This series comes on the cusp of "The Book of Boba Fett", which in turn followed 2 season of the exceeding well received and remembered "The Mandalorian".
The last we saw Ewan McGregor as Jedi Master "General Obi-Wan Kenobi" was in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999–2005); "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace", "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith".
This upcoming live-action series for Disney+ will be set between the end of the prequel trilogy, and the start of the original trilogy ("Star Wars: A New Hope", "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi"), and will essentially co-exist with Mando and Fett (?) ~ all too confusing for me LOL
"Obi-Wan Kenobi" is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and Joby Harold. The series would consist of six one-hour episodes.
For context, Deborah Chow directed 2 episodes of "The Mandalorian" (Season 1) as well - "Chapter 3: The Sin" and "Chapter 7: The Reckoning"
The trailer seen thus far looks absolutely wonderful! But then again, so did "The Book of Boba Fett"... I cannot deny the "elf-blame / self-loathing" mood for Kenobi though, which eventually led to his (supposedly) self-exile on Tattooine, seen in "A New Hope".
