> they're alive!
oh how the mighty (if ever) clarkequay fleamarket has fallen...
China Square Central is the new venue for the now defunct fleamarket, sprouting out from the various toyshops that has moved in and the familiar makeshift stalls/tables that peppers the second floor of the building. somehow the "feeling" is a bit different, seemingly "desperate", tho time will tell ... the walk-in crowd is near non-existent (ya can't see anything about it UNTIL you step in the building and go up the longassedescalators). but to be fair, the fleamart is only into itz 4th week of "operations".
the better access is along South Bridge Road (rather than via Far East Square, itz neighbour - tis a longer walk). itz just opposite of Club Street's end (with the public carpark). not alotta signage to reflect the place tho. closest MRT is Chinatown ... hhhmmm ... sorry i dun have any pictures here (to lazyassedtotakeany) ... heh. will take pix next sunday, k? :p
within the airconditioned environment, one can't help but feel we're paying for the "extra-amenities", but that's just me. honestly speaking, im just happy there IS a freeeeking fleamarket in the first place! somewhere else to go on a sunday now! hahaha - the toyshops are there; Uncle Peter's, Mike's, David's, Ng's Collectibles and even Vincent's (ground level tho, but wif better frontage) and quite a few newer ones (or rather maybe the ones i dun frequent anyways :p) and of coz my fav toyretailer, Jerrick's Ultimate Toys (renamed U-Toys) who've moved from Midpoint Orchard (where again? hahahaha = the building between OG Orchard and Emerald Orchard lah) - which is quite sad as we collectors basically gather there every other saturday afternoon ... but now that itz in CSC? a bit hard to get to lor... *sigh* - tho it does my heart warm that there ARE so many toyshops there AT ONE SINGLE SPOT STILL LOR! *sillytoygeekgrin*
and at least 3 "antique-shops" are there too, and they are indeed a marvel to drool over (at least my sweetie did ... heh :p) . and it is a weirdo-mix somewhat, and yet somehow a nice marriage, as they all hawk "collectibles" in their own way ... tho having said alla that, those mentioned above are the "permanent tenants" there.
my booty for the day:
@ $3 each; a dud-windup-jumpin-tin-rabbit and a tv-sharpener! *smile*
the individual fleamart-stalls are a wee poorer sight tho. even more hawking toys and a huge smattering of antiquities and fashion-stuffs. am just praying it doesn't go by way of "pasar malams" in time *shudder* ... heck, i might even consider setting up a stall there sometime again! just ta feel the kick of selling stuffs (and of coz earning liquid cash lah!) - make sure y'all drop by and say "HI" yah? hahaha better still = BUY SOME STUFF FROM ME! BWAHAHAHAHAHA :p ... oh wells, we'll see... :)
