jellymon's evisu cube gallery project plush
tis been quite a while since we've heard from Shanghai-based design-studio; Jellymon (last toy release being Jellymonograms) and i've just come across their new art piece using Evisu denim, fabrics and buttons, for an upcoming Cube Gallery exhibition which will tour around China over the next few months. JELLYMON:" Our piece is a skeleton that has a confused identity, he doesn't know if he is a Mexican day of the dead skeleton or a Chinese opera star!" *LOL* - and with that, i had to have a quick chat with Sam; about what's happening in Jellymon-world! /// CLICK HERE TO READ
TOYSREVIL: when does the exhibition launch? is it a touring exhibition?
SAM: Sept. 15th: Group Exhibition begins at Beijing Huamao Mall. That the first stop for the exhibition, then it will travel around China, there are about 15 other artists involved.
TRE: how long did it take you guys to initially conceptualize and produce this piece? gotta lurve the schizo skeleton-cum-opera star, IMHO LOL - is this the first of more to come? and would it (ever/eventually) be for sale?
SAM: The piece took about a day to design and about 2 weeks on and off to make. We may be doing some more commercial collabs with Evisu in the future but it's early days at the moment! Also I'm pretty sure the piece will be for sale but again I'm not sure how much for!
TRE: i don't recall Jellymonograms ever making it to Singapore tho (a pity really) ... what's up next for Jellymon? JMGS-fans wanna know!
SAM: We produced 300 of the Jellymonograms and they all sold out in Shanghai in the first 2 weeks. We have been very busy with commercial projects so haven't found much time for Toys recently. We are however doing some Dunny's with Kid Robot which will release some time next year.
TOYSREVIL: now that sounds pretty exciting, do keep us updated yeh? and good luck with Jellymon-endeavours, Sam and Lin Lin! :)
- meanwhile peep Jellymon's blog for updates :)
