Martin Ontiveros [tagged] is the perfect Giant Robot artist. After attending the California Institute for the Arts (CalArts) for Experimental Animation in Southern California, he then made the move to Portland, Oregon where he then spent a year working crappy jobs until he finally booked a show, did well with it, and has been doing illustration work and paintings ever since. His influences have been horror and sci-fi cinema of the 60's and 70's, Japanese heroes and monsters, animation, comics, H.P. Lovercraft, skull-crushing Heavy Metal and Thrash music, ancient and folk Mexican art, and the work of some of his closest friends, including Bwana Spoons, Tim Biskup, APAK, Le Merde, Scrappers Morrison, the list goes on and on.
Mixing monsters, clean lines, and bright colors, Ontiveros's characters have been and are now being made into figures by the likes of distinguished Japanese vinyl toy makers Gargamel, Max Toy, Toy2R and others to come. On the brink of super stardom, his exhibition, Hidden Dangers of The Rainbow, will feature new works and will guarantee to inspire.
