go-see: the cans festival @ london
UPDATED 08.05: Added Embedded Videos :)
The CANS FESTIVAL is a show featuring stencil art with over 40 international street and graffiti artists - "held inside an unused Eurostar terminal at Waterloo, London, on the capital's South Bank" [via] - the general public were even invited to participate as well. "The show is being sponsored & organized by PICTURES ON WALLS, an East End printmaker that produces limited-edition screenprints by Banksy and Faile, among others." ... FYI: the event-site will be re-opened as a public road on Wednesday 7th May. No mention if the existing artwork will be painted over or not (Scultptures will receive a "better" fate, perhaps?) MORE
Reports all over the www had made sure to mention "notorious" subversive-artist Banksy coming forth from anonymity to stand center stage with the proceedings. Personally I'm amazed at this notion - not your run-of-the-mill hit-n-run but firmly as a "sanctioned-bombing" / ART-event - which makes me wonder if Singapore may even subscribe to this notion as well (besides the individual establishments, like Red Dot etc) - it doesn't have to be a permanent locale as well, innit? ... Altho I can imagine suits shaking their collective-heads at these images LOL (and perhaps folks may not want to "come out" or be recognized, yeh?) ... as much as I'd like to go on with my opinions about this, I'd just come off as a "poser", becoz perhaps at the end of the day, I am essentially a "pop-culture-tourist" admiring the urban-slash-streetart-culture before me, but not living it, innit? IMHO, of coz ... meanwhile, here as just a few linkage to the images:
