Frank Castle - aka the comicbook vigilante Punisher [tagged] - has seen three celluloid incarnations thus far, 1989's Dolph Lundgren, 2004's Thomas Jane, and now Ray Stevenson in the upcoming 5th December 2008-release PUNISHER: WAR ZONE - directed by Lexi Alexander.
The origins are the same. Ditto the motivations. Only obvious differences are the actors and types of guns. I'd rather they adapt "The Last Punisher Story" or even "Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe". Instead, there is no progression nor advancement of Frank's story, innit? A literal "Remake" is all Frank's good for?
The Punisher is about controlled Rage manifest via Military-training and Revenge for the death of his family. Justice is just an excuse ... and the Punisher lives out the average Joes' collective fantasy-fulfilment - with lottsa guns and even more bullets. And tis also about the white skull on black - without that, Castle's just another delusional punk on a never-ending revenge-trip, innit? /// CLICK FOR TRAILER

What I would like to see is the Punisher having a conversation with Eric Draven aka the Crow, and hear their thoughts on revenge in an epic 2 hour movie, as directed by Woody Allan - at least it would be something different, IMHO ... which frankly, may never happen - altho what could happen is that hopefully the toy-makers would do a kick-rump 1/6th-scaled version of The Punisher, loaded-to-the-hilt with QUALITY weapons and gear - not too much to ask for, innit? heh.
