Storm Warriors
The posting of this teaser image of STORM WARRIORS on ENTERBAY has actually gotten me a tad excited - about the possibilities of Oriental warriors clad in battle armor wielding huge fantastical swords and brandishing super-kungfu-powers; exploding thru the panels of manhuas = done in lush-1/6th by Enterbay? An intriguing notion for me, if that be the case. We'll know for sure as we near December 2009, when the movie is released ;p
Earlier titled "Storm Riders 2" (changed in April 2008 by the directors; The Pang Brothers) - I've not updated about this Chinese flick since my previous feature in March'08, and now an official movie website is up and running @ www.thestormwarriors.com - which features a very-stylized CG-enhanced battlefield-sequence - viewable by clicking the "SECRET"-tab (showing a very Zack-Snyder-300-ish vibe / ain't judging til I get to see the final product) - which I've posted below for your viewing pleasure :)
Meanwhile, CLICK THRU for more images of the movie and cast, as well as another trailer.
[Frankly, the actual costume looks far from it's initial concept drawing - but hey, here's
hoping some movie magic'll make tis all look fine and martial-arts-dandy, yeh? heh.]
[I do like the mono-chromatic feel of the colors, personally speaking... altho having an entire
movie looking like this may be a pain, but then nobody said it would all look like this :p]
[Ekin Cheng & Aaron Kwong as "Whispering Wind" and "Striding Cloud"
duke it out in the snow-capped mountains ... Pretty passe, but who am I to judge? heh.]
FIGHT SEQUENCE TRAILER (WIND & CLOUD)
[The slow-mo not very endearing leh....]
[Other cast include Charlene Choi, Simon Yam, Nicholas Tze and Tang Yan]
"The Storm Warriors (traditional Chinese: 風雲II; simplified Chinese: 风云II) is an upcoming 2009 Hong Kong martial arts fantasy film produced and directed by The Pang Brothers. It is a sequel to the 1998 film The Storm Riders, both of which are based on the manhua Fung Wan by Ma Wing-Shing. The Storm Warriors is also known by its English-language working title, The Storm Riders II, a title that was changed in order to avoid copyright disputes.
Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok respectively reprise their roles as Wind and Cloud, who this time find themselves up against Lord Godless (Simon Yam), a ruthless Japanese warlord who intends on invading China.
For the film, the Pangs were inspired by Fung Wan's popular Japanese Invasion story arc The Death Battle.[1] The Storm Warriors was shot primarily in Bangkok, Thailand, and marks the first Chinese film to be shot in bluescreen and on custom-made sets. The film is expected to be released in Hong Kong on 17 December 2009.[2]" [wiki]
