Seen @ The Resin Collective @ Red Hot Robot (Apr 11)
Tis been oft said that; "Resin Is The New Vinyl" ~ but perhaps a more apt notion would be "Resin Is The Favourite New Material of Independent Toy Production" ... so okay, maybe it doesn't have the same panache nor hype-ring to it, but the simple reality of it is; resin has come to the forefront of predominantly independent producers of limited run designer toys in recent times and has caught on with many a creators. The notion where they can readily produce small amounts of figures by themselves, without the need for mass production with factories halfway around the world - is no doubt attractive, and I suspect as gratifying an achievement, IMHO.
And for the collectors and purveyors of collectible toys, a hand-casted and hand-painted sculpt direct from the artist / creator themselves, is as close as you'll get with the "ART" aspect of Art Toy-collecting (physically, if not "spiritually"), as you're going to get - that's been touted in many a toy, IMHO.
And in these trying economic times, the ability to produce and control your product, is very much key to be able to survive the now, and hopefully flourish when times are better for it. But of course, that is just my layman-conjuncture :)
Not confined to the sprinkling few, but now rapidly become the weapon of choice for many, Red Hot Robot's RESIN COLLECTIVE [tagged] sees an exceptional representation of the current movers and shakers in the resin toy production aspect of the hobby. A whopping list of 37 artists / creators have contributed over 100 original resin figures for the show, which launched April 11th, in Phoenix, Arizona.
