Kinnikuman @ Taipei Toy Festival 2010 (@ A17&A18 / 888-STYLE)

CLICK THRU for full-pics of this retro-styled figure, which is somewhat refreshing amidst a sea of hyper-realism and multiple articulation (which again is quite the irony for me, as it used to be the other way around :p).

Do also note that July 10th will see an autograph session with Takashi Shimada of YUDETAMAGO (the anime artistic team responsible for the creation of the 1979 manga!) from 6pm to 6:30pm, while July 11th sessions is from 1:00pm to 1:50pm. Both sessions will happen at the event main stage.


WHAT-IS: Kinnikuman (キン肉マン?, lit. "Muscleman") is a manga created by the duo of Yudetamago (which literally means "boiled egg" in Japanese), which is composed of Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada. The manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Jump, and received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen manga in 1985. An animated series was produced using the Limited animation technique.

WHO-IS: Originally created as a parody of Ultraman, Kinnikuman was a clumsy goof of a superhero whose services were only called upon to battle monsters if no other superheroes were around.

Kinnikuman's powers came from eating garlic (ninniku, ニンニク), which would gradually fill the "garlic meter" on his forehead until he could grow into a giant to fight the monsters. His main attack was the "Kinniku Flash" beam.
