DEBOXING-DAN DARE:

PACKAGING: The figure comes packed in a glossy-printed thick cardboard slipcase-box (with box art work by Steve Forde of Go Hero), which also features the artwork of Chris Weston's design drawings, as well as a classic Dan Dare comic-strip (from "Eagle") on it's back. Slide out the slip-cover to reveal a red box with plastic cover within. Opening the lid of the red-box to slide out the utilitarian inner styrofoam, which has a plastic cover that is easily lifted open.

DAN DARE IN 1:6

FIGURE: Dan Dare in fully-articulated 1/6th-scale, featuring Day2Day's own "Atom"-bodies, seen underneath the fabric-sewn flight suit, with functioning zip (Kudos for using a small zipper head!). The "gold" chest-piece is to be the base-connector to the helmet (more on that posted below). Moulded boots round off the figure.

At first glance, the fabric-sewn "belt" had uneven tailoring as seen from the back, but the manufacturer had mentioned this figure (which I am reviewing) to be a "sample", so that's okay. And as much as I would like the figure to be more "weathered", I'd immediately realized I had been "spoilt" by the current market products ~ especially figures from Hot Toys or ThreeA Toys; where heavy weathering is expected of their products. But Dan Dare is "different". Dan Dare came from an age past where the hero's "actions" spoke louder than what he/she wore (if that makes sense to you folks). So until there is a "battle-damaged" edition of Dan? This will be a right decent representation of Dan before he heads off to another adventure in space LOL

THE HEAD OF DARE:

HEAD: Best part of the figure (as far as I am concerned) is the headsculpt, which features a wicked eyebrow (as seen from Chris Weston's illustration) and the subtle shading that enhances the facial features. Am also silently glad that the neck shares the shading effect.

THE SPACE HELMET MAKETH THE SPACEMAN:

HELMET: One of the key accessories-feature of this figure, is the space helmet ~ which quite cleverly comes in two joinable parts. The headsculpt fits in the back part of the helmet (but not a tight-snug, giving a bit of room) and is clipped unto the chest-piece which lays over the space-suit (shown above), while the front-component with the clear visor then clips unto the back-of-helmet via two stubs at the helmet's temples on both sides.

It is a snuggly-engineered fit and would do well for posing and display. But of course might dislodge if violently swung about ~ but who swings about their action figures? Unless they are children of course! LOL

ACCESSORIZING DAN DARE:

ACCESSORIES: The "Paralysing" Raygun was all-out-retro, and a little treat for me personally. Fo the hands, there is the pre-requisite "trigger-finger" hand, while the left hand was an opened palm, instead of the constant "gripping" hands we see in a lot of figures (fair enough if they are "military"-based). The hands pop right out of a ball-socket, with the "Gauntlets" / gloves fitting in snug-tight while retaining very subtle-pivoting, and full rotation abilities.

I had remarked that the gloves had seemed a tad "under-treated" ~ where perhaps more weathering or shading could help enhance the tone. But in actual fact the color of the gloves had matched the pantone colors specified (to parallel that of the comic-strip, perhaps?). But like I mentioned above, this is not "battle-damaged" Dan Dare, innit?
