Surya Sunburn @ Munny World Festival Indonesia (Flashback 2010)
WHAT: I was in Jakarta last year in late-September, as a Special Invited Guest by Plastic Culture for Munny World Festival Indonesia. I did not manage to finish my coverage. There are loads more to be shared. This is one such post…
I had contemplated splitting this post into three parts, as it showcased three different figures, of different times, no less. But the reality was, they were done by one man (or a two-man group, but one dude was present, so Win is "it"!), and this is the short story of me meeting Surya Sunburn in MWFI!
Surya is as deft a craftsman as he is a story-teller. With each of his creations lies an interwoven story, with each character style not an individual, but a part of a larger concept. Shown above is a warrior styled custom-Munny, for which lied layers of parts created to form the whole. And how do I know that, because Surya is very open and happy to share his craft, as evident as prying open his custom, to explain to us what he had intended and did do. I lke a man who is not precious about his own work!
The below is a Mini-Munny creation completed on-the-spot of his autograph /
demo session for MWFI ~ which included making the standing podium!
What Surya brought along with him (that was not a part of the show in Jakarta) was this exceptional Mini Munny custom with a "Chinese Wayang Warrior" theme (as painted by someone else, I forgot who :p). Surya attempted to "open" the figure, to showcase the many parts he had taken care to create, and it is fascinatingly awesome!
GATOTKACA was a self-produced resin figure from Proxy Figures, of which Win was the sculptor for. And while I had featured it earlier, this was the first time I held in in my hands. Featuring a very thick traditional vibe in design, the Gatotkaca figure was indeed a figure to behold, IMHO. Yes, the box-packaging was a part of the whole figure, also done by them.
