Trailer & Poster for ELYSIUM
The thing that I most love about Neill Blomkamp films - be it his earlier short films, or 2011's "District 9" - is that they all are portrayed and feel "a matter of fact", no pomp no flash, just "as-is", and happening in the world, without a pause, a need to explain and excavate down the minds of viewers. I love it that he doesn't talk down to the audience, and just shoves them nudgingly into the deep end and say "deal with this. Survive. This."
This is the trailer for his upcoming new film starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster - Hollywood marquee names for what I hope to be another spectacular visual and mind-screw fest for the sci-fi-fantasy-realists. This Is ELYSIUM.
SYNOPSIS: "In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds." [via IMDb] "Elysium" now opens 9 August 2013 (USA).
