Getting To Know GREG AT WORK & CRUDDY



Since my previous feature of my visit to Illustration Arts Fest and unboxing of GREG AT WORK, @eh_cruddy X @hue.stores has since launched said blind box series available online here on cruddy.store, each priced SG$24.00.! Here's a lil'Q&A to get too know boh GREG and CRUDDY a lil'bit better...!

TOYSREVIL: Who is GREG? And how did he go from being "FRIEND" last year (above), to "GREG AT WORK" this year?

CRUDDY: Greg’s existence started together with Cruddy. Starting the brand at 20, I was heavily inspired by graphic tees at the time where brand mascots were adapted and plastered into many variations. Me and my brother also grew up watching Nickelodeon cartoons, so it seemed to start my brand I had to create a character with a personality and story. His personality and look has been shifting (a nicer way to say inconsistent). Today, Greg is a chill, everyday guy. A blank canvas shuffling through motions of life. He shows up with a neutral expression or a slight smile. He has a pleasant demeanour. He is a vehicle for expressing (most of) my ideas. (Quite like the movie Stranger Than Fiction with Will Ferrell)

CRUDDY: I’ve always had the support of my creative friends to bring Cruddy further. My friend Mildred had the idea of bringing Greg to 3D. At that point Greg had only existed as 2D drawings on tees and other flat objects. We took the chance and reached out to Hue, a design-forward 3D brand and studio based in Bangkok, whose body of works were aesthetic, functional and relatable. We are so grateful that they were willing to give us and Greg a chance to collaborate. Fast forward to today, we have now 2 editions of Gregs in 3D.



CRUDDY: We thought about what would be a good continuation from Greg Friend, which would be relatable to our audience. A lot of our followers have been or are entering the workplace, so it seemed like a good time to make a Greg companion for us to bring to work!

TOYSREVIL: How many designs to be had in this current release?

CRUDDY: Greg friend is a modular keychain, of which its mechanisms are brilliantly designed by Hue. His head, body and legs are detachable and exchangable across all variations, like lego blocks! They are exchangable with the debut edition of Greg Friend as well. A secondary effect we wanted to create for was for friends, or even strangers, to connect and exchange parts of their Greg keychain with each other, as a form of creating friendships.
Similar to the debut edition of Greg Friend, there are 3 main character designs.

1. Work From Home Greg - where he has eyeshades and hugging a pillow anf wearing boxers and house slippers. It’s really the ‘hardly working’ colleague who wakes up just to show up online.

2. Computer Greg - He has a computer screen for a head, holding a cup of coffee. He’s the overworked colleague who operates on caffeine.

3. Lunch Greg - He’s crossed legged (a special variation from the usual standing legs) holding a box of cai fan (economical rice). He believes the best part of the work day is lunch. What’s in his rice is up to interpretation.

And in this edition, there is one new feature. A mystery Greg who’s archetype has yet to be revealed. But I believe 1 lucky customer has gotten him...

CRUDDY: Cruddy is a Singapore-based creative studio and brand that creates illustrations inspired by and relating to everyday life. Find them on graphic tees and other fun merchandise.
