just finished watching the entire 2-disc The Incredibles DVD and im nothing short of being blown away all over again. i remember watching it on the bigscreen and the anticipation prior to that was satisfied beyond measure. and with the behind-the-scenes featured in the dvd i am humbled so. and inspired. and excited. the efforts put into the product, the love and care obviously shown, gives me a bigsmile in my heart.

and gave me food for thought. initially altho as much as i had enjoyed the movie, i was sorta lamenting the lack of originality of the main characters. the parallels to marvelcomic's Fantastic Four was way too obvious. Mr Incredible was the strongman ala The Thing. Elastic Girl was Mr.Fantastic. Violet was The Invisible Woman. with the exception of Dash being DCcomic's The Flash. even the final villian that turnedup was The Moleman (one of the fantastic4's earliest villian). but i guess, it occured to me just that: there is no originality existant in this current age and millenia.

sounds too harsh and judgemental? hear me out ...

with so much immersion into the information age and the reality that is the WWW, there can hardly BE a original concept, becoz everything seems as if a rip-off of one another. (of coz there are many exceptions) for in the end, have we really run out of ideas? the reality is, everything we do now and create, is basically based on or of a reaction to the past. its history that mayhaps influence our ideas and concepts and there is nothing fundamentally wrong with that. and im not even talking about "imitation is the best form of flattery". becoz creation does not come out of thin air. we think they do, but its based on what we HAVE experienced, what we have been taught, what we read etc ... what we do know. another form of creation is based on "questions". questions that we have in our own minds (based on existing ideas mayhaps?) that needed answers. and we create the answers ourselves sometimes.

but maybe we should be looking at it from another perspective. not that we do not have originality, but mayhaps it is our intepretation of said existing ideas and hence adapting it with our own answers and thoughts on them, that we actually DO create, in our own individual image, voice, thoughts. much like the many blogs online. it is their own intepretation that makes it original and not the subject or content per se (most times anyway) and that is alright. that is infact great! becoz everyone's prompted via whatever reasons or catalysts - to create. and that to me, is a great thing!

and i look forward to reading the many regular blogs i have been lurking on and to the many others i will find. and i am excited all over again :)
