> blog privacy

i read with great interest and disdain with the issue of blog privacy, an issue floating amidst the www the recent past and present ... and held back my comments ... until now ...

the issue is of a blogger, whose entry was tomorrowed and the bruwahaha that ensued. the question of whether tomorrow had the right to link her entry, or anyones', of her asking the entry to be deleted and of blog privacy, in general.

when my entry on Perth The Movie was tomorrowed, i was surprisingly not too affected by it kamcheongspider = in the past, the issue of "anonymity" of this blog to the www was of tantamount importance. but of late, it has gotten to the point that i really couldn't give twoshittes about it anymore ... tis too tiring. when i was Browned twice prior, kaoz! = i was scared stiff, i lie to you not. "anonymity" went out the fucking-window ... and thank the bloggawds i landed softly ... with minimum fuss and clutter ... and peeps drove up and passed by my blog for a gander or two ... with only a scant few coming back and parking besides and having a regular silent read. tho i might never know who they/you are, tis all good. and also i ain't no hot chica in the first place, so not much trolls bother to hang around. and if tis seems an invitation to a troll-party? dun even think about it. move along.

and back to the issue of being featured in anybody else's blogs or online portal ... a "request" or "warning" would be appreciated tho ... but then again, im sure as fuck's guilty of not warning anybody else as well! so who the fuck am i to say about it, eh? muahahahahhahha ... as much as it is left "public" for all to see, with no safeguards whatsoever (and since "anonymity" is gone and dead), so tis up for public scrutiny and mindrape, tis just a matter of whomever is more vocal (with comments) or is just happy sitting back and silently harvesting your thots, innit? ... BUT, tis after all your entry to begin with and i would insist that you (the originator of the blog/entry) have the RIGHT to ask for the entry to be deleted, if that were the case ... but ask nicely please ... and that most times sometimes pisses me off royally as well; for the entry was written by ME, and you chose to feature/link/use/cut'n'paste - it and i have no rights to my entry already? who the fuck do you think you are? even if you dun give a shitte what other peeps do to your blog and entries, others might ... and as the web shares all to show she cares, so too the selfishness of individuals that will inevitably scar or damage said individual? the issue of "rights" (if ever there was one) had been trampled upon and peeps say: "you deserve it, becoz you put it in public".

which is essentially a double-edged sword, innit? here you go, thinking your blog is your's to control (be it for mediawhoring or for personnal purging or vendettas) and someone comes along and tells ya: "sorry, but your blog ain't yours leh... it belongs to the www now" ... WTF?

how would you feel, if your words are taken out of context (extreme-example here) or of your pictures plastered all over the cyberhighway? fair enuff you put it out there in the first place, but does it mean others can use it to their own devices? the borderline is so thin and grey; tis almost invisible ... but not too invisible when ya feel it tugging at your neck when the line is crossed ... and you pray it does not slice your neck in half ... and so are YOU the one holding the tripwire now? or the others who've raised it up above leg level? who will take true responsibility for the action? or will fingers be only pointed at the originator of the blog/entry? as much as peeps say: "guns dun kill people. people do" - just realize (for future reference) that the gun was not put into your own hands, much less being pointed towards your own temple, by other hands ... and the tripwire was inplace to deter strangers, and now it's drawing blood from your neck ... oh what a dangerous place the www has become ...

a flawed point of reference which everyone has flogged to death already:
you're walking around your own flat, bare naked after a shower. you're changing to leave the house. your window is opened by the blinds are not fully drawn. a gap is left behind. your neighbour is peering down at your window, or mayhap a stranger who happen to walk on by. he/she does not like what they see. or maybe they do. either way, they complain to the police or they post pix up online ... and the next thing ya know" you're charged with indecent exposure? or flamed for being a slut online ... what "rights" do you have then?

and what rights to you have of your own privacy now? now, i ain't equipped with the knowledge of the law, but something needs to be addressed when you're in your own home within one side of the window, while on the other side; this the rest of the world ... "Invasion Of Privacy" suddenly becomes a "lame excuse"?

pedophiles/rapists/muderers/racistfuckers and the like have no rights. the moral majority speaks for itself, so dun startup with me, cool?

you are in your own home. your own domain, doing your own thing. (tis not as if you're buttnekkid and clutching unto your windowgrills and doing a dirtydance whacking out thru the grills, innit? - if YES, then you're asking for it lah!) and you have no rights to your own private affairs? and some stranger comes along and points a finger and knives are passed around the lynchmob and you're up for public scrutiny? hard logic for me to swallow, i insist ... and you were asking for it?

is the internet only about being voyeurs and attentionwhores? the line is marred and who are you to judge in the first place? who died and made you king/queen? there's something to be said about personal tolerance and each and every individual has differing levels of it ...

sharing is what helps develop and promote the blogging community (in singapore), but let not it be at the expense of the individual, even if you disagree with him/her (moral boundaries apply, of coz) and much less an inquistion for all and sundry ... becoz everyone has their own voices and a right to their own opinions and reactions, tho it doesn't mean you'd haveta shove it down everyone else's cyberthroats, innit? a choice everyone has, tho unfortunately not everyone is playing by the same rules ...

and even if you're responsible for your own blog, does that mean others will be to yours? tolerance means shitte when it becomes sensationalism ... and censorship becomes the hidden threat to us all, as much as we (might) deplore commercial newspaper reporting, do we too haveta start censoring our own shitte, for public consumption? who invited you in, in the first place?

oh, but your window was opened...
