of marvels and metal men
:: MOVIES / COMICS ::
coupla superhero-comic properties slated for silver-screen adaptation:
by saying the magical words; SHAZAM! ~ lil Billy Batson is instantly struck by a magic lightning bolt that transforms him into an adult Superman-like hero empowered with the abilities of six mythological figures; he is Captain Marvel! ... and the red and gold clad superhero has been optioned by New Line Cinema to grace the silver-screens, directed by Peter Segal [more info via AICN + SHH] ~ dun really know about the gold-waist-sash tho(*heh*) ... but then again, im reminded of the recently completed excellent Superman / Shazam: First Thunder mini-series by Judd Winick, art by Joshua Middleton ~ which is a definite must-read and a great updated Captain Marvel story, IMHO.
and (the relatively mainstream-obscure) Metal Men is currently being developed for the big-screen by (uber-comicbook-heroes-producer) Lauren Shuler Donner (X-men, Constantine) [via SHH] ~ "It's a DC comic. It's for Warner [Brothers]. It's 'Metal Men' which is much more like Men In Black. It's miles away from 'X-Men'. It's lighter and it's fun. A lot of CGI. That would be fun for me to try a whole did kind of comic."
The Metal Men are a team of robot superheroes, created by scientist Dr. Will Magnus. The team: field leader Gold, strong man Iron, slow-witted loyal Lead, self-doubting and insecure Tin, hot-headed Mercury, and femme-bot Platinum. ~ and it sure as heck's gonna be a hell of a CG-ride innit? (just as long as they dun assume "human form" in-between action, IMHO :p) ... seems mining the funny/comic-books for celluloid-gold is never gonna really let up, would it? which i reckon is something good for the fans (comicbooks, that is) in the long run, somehow ... *heh* (both illustrations shown here by Alex Ross)
