Personally for me, in this "bizness" of "designer toys" and all it's frills-laden subculture - it very often boils down to either aesthetic appeal (and one's personal appreciation of such), or attention to details (quantity versus quality of details) = both of which again, varies in degrees and standards of acceptance. "Playability" is too, a huge factor for me.

In the instance of TADO's upcoming 7-inch TULIP by Kidrobot - I am "blindsided" by the amount of "props" / tools (and if they could be removed, that would be cool), and of the translation of TADO's design sense from 2-D print unto a 3-dimensional articulated vinyl figure - which leads to a more "practical" toy to be had, which too appeals to my own personal tastes / senses.
