Space Battleship Yamato In Singapore

Admittedly I do not keep track of cinema listing these days (had trouble reading newspapers since my impaired vision because of my Stroke) and most time depend on the internet for news-bites these days (I enlarge my fonts, mind) ~ so when I saw the "Coming Soon" poster-ad of the live-action SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO ~ I was pretty excited to see a slice of my childhood on the silver screens. Then a google today made me realize, SBY actually premiered on March 24th, the same day I was watching Sucker Punch! Guess what's my next movie viewing then?

Shown up top is a 5-minute+ sequence of the flick (in Japanese language, neither dubbed nor subtitled though) and frankly looks pretty talky and boring (as most Japanese long-form adaptions somewhat become, ala Casshern, 20th Century Boys etc - but hey, we've learnt to lurve them all, don't we?) ~ but hey, tis a "slice of childhood" and it would be fab to see a re-envisioned STARBLAZERS innit? FIRE THE WAVE MOTION GUN!

STORY: It is the year 2194. The Gamilons, an enemy of undetermined form, begin an invasion of Earth. The nations of Earth pool their forces and fight back but their armies are defeated and most of humanity wiped out.

Five years later, in 2199, the Earth has been polluted by space-to-planet bombs, and those who remain alive have fled underground. Even the former top pilot, Susume Kodai, has left the military. One day, as he is exploring above ground, a mysterious object falls out of the sky. This is a communications capsule from the planet of Iscandar, 148,000 light years distant. Apparently on Iscandar is equipment that will eliminate the radiation. The Defense Force of Earth equips the Space Battleship Yamato with a previously unknown propulsion system, a 'wave-motion engine' based on plans found in the capsule. Kodai rejoins the Force, and resolves to set out aboard the Yamato. With the fate of the Earth in their hands, the crew blasts off for distant Iscandar. They have one year until radiation drives humanity to extinction. Kodai's great battle has begun!
