MAY-5

Thursday May 5th. The last day where election rallies can be held islandwide, before the only "silent" day tomorrow-Friday, before the Singapore Elections happen on Saturday May 7th. And while I abhor discussing at length about politics, one cannot deny this has gripped the island of Singapore - as it should - with elected officials governing and providing for us citizens - for the next five years to come - at "stake". Taxi-drivers talk about it. My physiotherapists talk about it. My family talk at length about it. I watched an episode of American Idol on the telly today, and the only difference is one wails musical notes while the other rants about the way of life in our island-state. But still it is up to the public to vote for who they like.

Ironically, I had spurred on my dad to go for a political rally, because essentially, the next time anyone can partake of such an event, might well be in another 5 years' time. I have had my experience years ago - and while it was indeed invigorating with emotions fanned (like a football game but without men running on the field with a rubber ball), it left loads of questions unanswered, and as well forcefully answered. We have reached an age where emotions carry more weight, and fanning the flames of "revenge" is only going to garner us that emotion in return. Although I doubt if there ever was, and ever will be, a sportsmanship-like election perspective - where the betterment of the citizens, rise above all sense of propriety and anger.

Truthfully, in this age of technological advance and intense hype-styled promotions in every sense of the world, it is still harder to choose who it will be, who will be responsible for your country's future, at least for the next five years. Or maybe we choose who will be the "closer bet" to possibly get the job done (with the likes of toto and 4D, and two casinos built in Singapore, us Singaporeans are getting pretty apt at "gambling", innit? LOL).

And like the election rally, this will be the first and last I mention of this on the blog. Tomorrow will be silence, followed by me hobbling to the voting centre on Saturday, and we'll all collectively wakeup on the Sunday after, and celebrate Mother's Day like nothing really ever happened.

Such is life, innit?

Cheers :)
Andy
