Spotted @ NYCC 2011: Action Figures / Media Toys / Art Toys

From Play Arts comes Batman from Arkham Asylum (debut at SDCC) and impressively from Street Fighter and even Final Fantasy. I had since forgo the notion of collecting 'action figurines' years ago (after my foray into Spawn toys from McFarlane, in the good old days) but the Play Arts offerings shown above are somewhat more enticing than the Marvel character-melee shown below - there's just TOO MUCH to collect in the first place, isn't it?

With characters both retro and reinvented, from all genres of animated cartoons to stop-motion, to movie adaptations = nothing can ignore the power of "media" - be it individuality adaptions, or interpretations on a standard-form (which Medicom Toys does oh-so effectively well with their BE@RBRICK-line).

On the other side of the toy-collecting spectrum, are the indie-toys - more predominately here represented by "Art Toys" - where there might not necessarily be the juggernaut of 'media' backing their character play, but are instead distinguishable as their own iconology, in their own world, created by a creator/artist/designer - whose name stands shoulder-to-shoulder as their toys (What? Can you tell men who designed that Optimus Prime toy you are holding right now? :p)
