Custom-Feature: 'ah, Dessert!' Robotars by Daniel Yu (for 'Robotars Custom Show 2')
ARTIST-BIO: Daniel Yu was born in 1985 in the righteous eastside of Singapore. He spent his childhood immersed in fantasmical Sunday morning cartoons and living in the world of make believe. Coming from a family that embraced cultures both east and west, his upbringing was steeped both in Chinese tradition and pop culture ephemera; a good number of those inspirations have found their way into his work.
As a self taught sculptor and painter, he is interested in the levels of commentary that seemingly innocuous objects can have, both on a social as well as an individualistic level.
Created on the concept of identity, his characters offer a means of escapism from the real world, and at the same time, they are grounded and shaped by his personal experiences.
Daniel’s work has been exhibited locally and abroad, and he hopes to one day amass a plastic army big enough to rule the world.
"It's an homage to the scene in Indiana jones and The Temple of Doom.
When i found out that the Robotars had a removable skullcap, I was
pretty much decided on what it was going to turn into." ~added Daniel.
