12" Black Tattoo & Set-Up Snaps for { AR+OY } "since michael lau" (Opening Feb 8)
For HKD$4000 (apron. US$516-), you'd be able to walk away with the above 12" TATTOO BLACK figure (numbered 01/99) from Michael Lau, currently holding his { AR+OY } "since michael lau" exhibition launching February 8th @ 1/F, Sejong Center Exhibit Hall in Seoul, Korea.
Here's a look at the set-up for the show, courtesy of images found on Michael Lau Facebook (via a variety of sources, including Tomm Wong and How2Work). The main exhibition hall showcases Michael's 12" Gardeners, as well as a new section featuring his "urban vinyl" figures, and very interestingly has prototypes / initial figure sculpts (loving the numbered joints lol) and toy parts all laid out for show!
My absolutely favorite of the exhibits has to be his sketches and materials used to create his 12" Gardeners from his early years, including a look at his hand-cut display window boxes! Personally, this is a real treat to be able to witness the "behind-the-scenes" aspect of Michael's retrospective work. Very inspiring indeed!
Also on hand are two larger-than-life 9-feet tall TATTOO figures (based from one of his earliest Gardener vinyl figures) - one fully painted (am I a fanboy to want to have my pic taken with it????) and the other a grey unpainted version, awaiting visitors to the exhibition!
