Takashi Murakami @ Galerie Perrotin, Hong Kong (May 21-July 6, 2013)
Images of paintings and sculptures for Takashi Murakami's solo show @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong), launched May 21st, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong.
What was interesting were caricatured self-portraits in both painted canvases "surrounded by his emblematic characters including Kaikai and Kiki with epure backgrounds of skulls pattern." (as mentioned in the event's Press Release), and the gleaming golden/chrome sculpt showcased in the middle of the gallery, seemed surreal and a weird kind of "pop-effigy" in the middle of the proceedings, IMHO (versus smaller sculpts of Murakami and his dog on show at Art Basel HK itself).
Murakami's alter-ego "Mr Dob" (the trio of blobs with a happy face ala an exploded "Mickey Mouse") is also predominately showcased. Check out the still images posted HERE in my dedicated Facebook album.
The exhibition in Hong Kong is the 9th solo show by Takashi Murakami organized by Galerie Perrotin in 20 years of collaboration, and exhibits thru July 6th, 2013.
