First Look at COMBRAT by Ron English X Pobber @ #STGCC2016
Revealed for the first time at STGCC2016 (Sept 10-11, 2016) is “COMBRAT” by Ron English, with this 8-inch tall figure to be produced by Pobber Toys as part of their new line of “anti-war” collectibles - a manifestation of their “Make Toys Not War” mantra (hashtag #maketoysnotwar) - which will include more similarly themed works to come from various other artists too!
Based on Ron English’s various “COMBRAT” paintings of a kid dressed in a clown costume carrying an automatic rifle, this incarnation features a deliberate “army green” color. On display is the prototype, standing around 8-inches tall. I like that the figure is a larger piece, as opposed to a smaller sized 5 or 6-incher … gives it a certain ?weight” to the “seriousness” of the piece, IMHO.
Expect a 4th quarter 2016 / year-end release. Stay tuned for further updates!
Personally this is an aspect of Ron’s art which I appreciate made into a collectible, something based on his “original” art versus his pop-culture cross-over-mashes ala GRINS, Super McSized et al. But then again, having a wider catalog provides more choices for the consumer - aka “ME”! haha
