MISCHIEF TO SATAN: Season 1 - Subway by THE SATANSHOP
Introducing THE SATANSHOP - a Korean art toy brand that “No”, does not pedal in “deviant occult collectibles”, but instead points out the fundamental flaws seen in current communities, with “Mischief to Satan - Public Enemy To Daily Life” in “Season 1”; based on select folks you might see on the SUBWAY!
Satan in Daily Life: ”In our society, there is satan who shows no consideration for others. And also, there are timid people who want to punish satan, but always suppress their anger. Everyday this timid people are living under stress by satan.”
”The Satanshop’s first season is composed of stories in the subway that many people get stressed from everyday. The main characters are spreading man, cross-legged woman, backpack man, molester and bulldozing senior.”
These guys are “universal” too, as we in Singapore are as well “acquainted” with folks such as these on our local *MRTs (*Mass Rapid Transist - our equivalent of “subways” here in SG :p).
“Regular citizens” as a topic is always an interesting concept, and personally might have a wider appeal to the general public, who might “identify” with these characters moreso that artists’ creations where a “stretch of imagination” is needed to “understand” beyond the aesthetics of a collectible, IMHO.
Given a lil’clever twist to the presentation, and they are propelled beyond a “regular” interpretation of the everyman, methinks! One such awesome series of figures from the past include The Yum Yums from UK (*okay, maybe NOT “regular everyday people :p).
Released as pseudo “keychain-charms” - character figures are sized between 6-9.5cm - made of PVC and metal chains, with a SRP of KRW 10,000 per 1pcs (Approx. US$9.00 x SG$12 per).
First unveiled art Art Toy Culture 2016, the brand also participated in Toy Soul 2016 in Hong Kong. Currently you can currently purchase these figures in Korea (via ’10x10’ and 1300K shops) and Taiwan ('play toys forever’). No news on availability direct from THE SATANSHOP themselves (as yet) though…
Here are some more snaps to gawk at (along with the video featured up top), and as qwll you can stay connected to their Facebook and Instagram
