Kaz at Blackbook Toy for *BYEBYE 2017, HELLO 2018* On TOYSREVIL
TOYSREVIL: How was 2017 for you? Share with us your most triumphant moment in 2017. What did you find the most disappointed of 2017?
BBT KAZ: "2017 was another great year for BBT. There are so many great moments in 2017, but if I choose some from there:
1. Mousezilla release
2. BBT paint works
BBT KAZ: "It’s an honor for us to make new sofubi with Ron English. Mousezilla instantly became one of our most sought after sofubi, which we are very much humbled and proud to be apart of. More unique colorways to come in 2018.
And not only being painted by factory, we started painting some of our toys by ourselves. These paint works allowed us presenting wider ranges of sofubi to our fans.
Great to be back to DCon, we missed in 2016. Most of the shows in Asian countries are great too, but shows in us, especially, DCon is very special for us, as we work with many artists from us.
The bummer thing was we decided we discontinue some of our sofubi, some with Ron English, some with David Flores. It’s really tough decision, but had to do so..."
TOYSREVIL: What is your most favorite toy, or piece of art you've seen in 2017?
BBT KAZ: "Amazing GUZO sculptures by Haroshi at his solo show in Tokyo. He uses used skate decks to make these sculptures. Who wouldn’t love these if you love skate culture?"
TOYSREVIL: What are you most looking forward to in 2018? Any plans for your work, for the new year you can share with us? Or not share with us, but can tease us with?
BBT KAZ: "2018 would be full of totally new sofubi, some with the artists we have been working with. And some with totally new artists. Great thing is as far as I know, it’s going to be their 1st sculpture/toy/sofubi. You will know who they are soon, probably.
Of course, new colorways from current lines."
TOYSREVIL: Share with us, WHO you are and what you do?
BBT KAZ: "Founder and director of BlackBook Toy. www.blackbooktoy.com."
