about that madcowboy moody-custom by nvc crew for don't cry over spilt vinyl! @ pravus gallery (may 2, 16)

without a shred of doubt, NVC Crew knocks this MOODY-custom out of the park - or rather out of the corral - with MAD COWBOY, slated for a debut at the upcoming DON'T CRY OVER SPILT VINYL! custom-show @ Pravus Gallery, on May 2nd & May 16th [details] and Dr. Bao talks us thru their process HERE along with some more pics of the deranged mad-cow with studded-chaps LOL

TOYSREVIL: Hey! I recognize this figure? [PEEP]

DR.BAO: Yeah, it's our Moody custom that you've got the chance to preview, like 1 year ago!!!! Ohh man...that's insane! - can you believe that we didn't finish this project until now?!

This custom was supposed to be completed for Ted's show last year (Moody Idol), but we just missed the show at that time ... But when Ted told me that he's having another show this year (Don't Cry Over Spilt Vinyl), well I was like, ok this time I'll make it!!! ... So as soon as I returned from NYCC, the day after I was on this custom!

TOYSREVIL: Less than a week to finish? *cool* - How did the project come about?

DR.BAO: First I have to thank Ted for being such a patient person and for waiting for us for this custom!!! I think he's someone who always supports us in what we are doing, so I think it was simply normal that we wanted to create something nice for him...

[Editor: Ted Stilson interviewed]

When Ted sent us his platform at the beginning, well I have to admit that Spive and I really don't know what to do with it! Firstly, at that time, we didn't do much on big toy platforms, as we were customizing mostly 3'' Dunnys - so when we saw that 6'' Moody with all it's rounded shapes and was quite big ... we were like, ok - what will we do on this?

And the way we decided what we will do to it was based on the stance of the figure! It's true! ... The Moody has that wide stance with boths arms stretched on the sides, and it was obvious that we thought about a cowboy!!! And because the Moody is also like a kind of cow, we were like, hey we have to do a cow-boy!!!!!

DR.BAO: You will notice that we didn't sculpt much on this figure, and the reason was that we wanted people see the platform ... so the emphasis was more on the style of the character rather than a complex sculpt ... And you know we just like to make some kind of bad boy character with our customs, so we wanted our cow to be ... a mad cow!!!!! Hhahhaha!!!!!!

So it was all about style, like the big nose-ring, mad facial expressions and just wearing only what he needed to carry all his arsenal of weapons!!!!!! I think this is like our interpretation of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly!!!!! And also we wanted to keep it kind of dark, you know? Not like a joyful cowboy or stuff like that! Not those cute cowboy stuff, you know what I mean!

TOYSREVIL: No cute stuff from NVC Crew ever?

DR.BAO: ... We have some some other stuff coming up ... like less bad boy style stuff!!! hahahah!!!!

TOYSREVIL: "Diversity" is the key to longevity, IMHO - and from what you mentioned earlier, it wasn't all sculpted-stuff for this custom, quite a difference from your other works tho...

DR.BAO: What's also cool about this project is that we diversified in the materials we use ... Here you will notice that we use some metal and leather fabric ... It's kind of cool to work sometimes with other things than just sculpting material ...

I think I've said almost everything on this project ... And it's always cool to see people in Canada who are trying to make things move for the designer toy industry, and that's why we want to support Ted in his project!!!

TOYSREVIL: Very cool of you guys, Dr. Bao and Spive! Looking good and looking forward to the DON'T CRY OVER SPILT VINYL Show, as well as "cutesy" stuff from NVC Crew in the near future! LOL
