Maneki Tora: The Lucky Tiger by Daniel Goffin
"Early in the development phase of analogue to digital personality transfers scientists used different types of animals in their experiments. One particularly successful test involved tigers. Ever since little tigers in form of the test subject have been a cute giveaway symbolizing strength and good luck."
Created by Germany-based artist Daniel Goffin, the resin sculpture MANEKI TORA stands 6.5cm (2.5 inches) tall and can currently be yours for 30€ (includes world wide shipping) directly via http://store.danielgoffin.com ~ in an edition of only 7 pieces!
Daniel has always been pretty evocative (IMHO) in his depiction of form and characterization (apologetically, I have a as-yet-published interview with the man!) and this figure is but a small taste of his style ... CLICK THRU for more snaps and to get to know Maneki Tora a little bit better!
Daniel-adds: "Maneki Tora" is a twist on the widely known Japanese "maneki neko" or "lucky/beckoning cat". "Tora" is the Japanese word for "tiger" and I have chosen the tiger because 2010 is in the Chinese Lunar Sign of the tiger. My idea was not only to incorporate the tiger in this toy but also tell a little background story on the universe/story the revolves around my earlier resin toy.
PRODUCT-DESCRIPTION: The resin sculpture is about 6.5 cm (2.5") big and has been painted with special automotive effects paint that shifts colors depending on the lighting. While the top shimmers in a beautiful golden orange the lower parts of the body range from silver, pink over blue to turquoise. Finished with beautiful high gloss coat. The box slides out and doubles as a display stand. The art is printed on a sheet of transparent paper. The black and white drawing is printed on one side while the Japanese characters for "maneki tora" are printed on the reverse side. The paper is removable so it can be flattened and displayed separately. Edition of 7.
