CLEA 2010 - CE Battle Artist Feature: Kenji Chai from Malaysia

CLEA 2010 [www / tagged] happens in slightly over a week's time, and TOYSREVIL will be featuring the artists / designers who have been chosen for the CE Final Battle ~ until the day I fly off to Thailand to meet you all at CLEA!

In today's feature, we have a quick chat with designer and street artist Kenji Chai [AKA Black Fryday] from Malaysia! CLICK THRU to read, and to find out Kenji's "Plan of Battle"!


TOYSREVIL: What was the genesis / design inspiration / concept of your chosen CE-design submission?

KENJI CHAI: Actually I am very into colourful stuff, Cute stuff, skull, and my concept for CE is monster with striking colour.



TOYSREVIL: What is your "Plan Of Battle"?

KENJI CHAI: i don't have any plan, Pray for GOD and do my best! definitely using my style to excecute the idea~


TOYSREVIL: What are your design influences (as an artist)? How do you engage a custom toy / your process of work? What is your preferred or signature style of customization?

KENJI CHAI: As a designer/ Artist. Of course i have idol like Nathan Jurevicius (Scary Girl) Pete Fowler (Monsterism), Gary Baseman, KAWS, and many many more.... i learn alot from the start which you see from my colouring style - which is closer to Scarygirls' - which i learn alot about how to seperate colour that (gives) contrast. Signature-style of customization will be the mask on the face and the unique dot patterns on their body..... colour will be outstanding.



TOYSREVIL: What are you looking forward to do in Thailand, and for CLEA?

KENJI CHAI: Meeting other great people from other countries, like designer and artist. Sharing . Of course media like you guys (toysrevil) that are passionate in TOYS!



TOYSREVIL: Share with us, what is your nick /name? And what's next to look out for from you?

KENJI CHAI: You can call me Kenji Chai or aka Black Fryday. Coming up will have some project with toys company which I cant tell now which is P & C .
