#DTA2019 Showcase: "BEST NON-LICENSED" Finalists
And while (Panel/Closed) Voting has since ended for this particular category, I'd like to share a glimpse at the 9 x Finalists for "BEST NON-LICENSED" in this year's Designer Toy Awards, before the winner is announced June 1st at the DTA Show in Five Points Festival 2019!
The "BEST NON-LICENSED" award will be "presented to an outstanding Designer Toy release with a design derived from an unofficially licensed or bootlegged entertainment property: film, television, video game, or anything else. Nominees in this category will be judged not only on their quality as a toy but also their representation of the original property."
ASTRO CRASH OG from @joshdivineltd, and produced by @strangecattoys. This (nearly) 10" tall vinyl will premiere and be made available (in small amounts) at the StrangeCat Toys Booth #423 (along with other exclusives).

The "Bart Simpson"-homage "BAD ACID II" from Iconoclast Toys (AKA Manny-X Romero @artisdead) was released in July 2018, in its blister-carded glory.
"Bart Simpson" (full name "Bartholomew JoJo Simpson") is the creation of Cartoonist Matt Groening, and is apart of "The Simpsons" animated series, previously owned by Fox Broadcasting Company, since purchased by Walt Disney Co..
I've certainly had more than a fair share of blog-coverage of @whereschappell's scratch-made "CHILDISH GAMBINO - THIS IS AMERICA" resin sculpt (including a "torso sculpt"), based on Donald Glover's character in the "THIS IS AMERICA" music video, which by itself certainly had seen it's on share of controversy and hype!
The Sucklord's GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS was also a Finalist for the Fan/Public Voted "TOY OF THE YEAR" in this year's DTAs.
The character "Grover" from "Sesame Street" was used as resin-recast in this blister-carded figure release, along with the published image used in said blister-card back.
Andrew Bell's "LARRY LACTOSE" was a delicious riff-off cereal-box mascot, and was also a Finalist for the Fan/Public Voted "TOY OF THE YEAR" in this year's DTAs.
I remembered the "NO TOYS 4 US" release from Mr Blank Toys @muxblank (circa San Diego Comic Con 2018), as it was extreme topical of when U.S.-based toy-stores for "Toys R Us" were closing down.
The giraffe character is based off "Toys R Us" mascot "Geoffrey", since ut of the job and destitute! LOL
This incarnation of @scottlava's THE GREAT SHOWDOWNS "illustration-to-toy" releases features the "Indiana Jones" character design as sculpted by George Gaspar of @doublegtoys. Released for DesignerCon 2018 with DKE Toys, this blister-carded collectible was also a Finalist for the Fan/Public Voted "TOY OF THE YEAR" in this year's DTAs.
UNTOONED SPONGEBOB & PATRICK was designed by Miguel Vasquez @marvelous_mikee and made by @vtsstoys ... and I have been gawking at them since!
Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" is long been a parodied and homaged character in as many mediums.
WALMART LEGENDS by Dano Browns @dano_brown is an interesting "Finalist" in this category, as it depicts an actual human being, infamous for being recorded in this video at Walmart, and making an appearance in The Ellen Show.
