New Licenses Announed & Scenes from Hot Toys 10th Anniversary Exhibition
Hong Kong's 1/6th figure producers Hot Toys unleashes a slew of new licenses featuring a swell number of "surprises". Since the Gentle Giant marguettes debut at SDCC, Zack Snyder's scored with the visuals for the upcoming Sucker Punch movie, and I personally cannot wait for HT's version! Movie-propoerties continue with Pirates of the Carribbean: On Stranger Tides, and a delightful blast-from-the-past with Tim Burton's Batman (Michael Keaton's Batman and Jack Nicholson's The Joker? *Whoo-hoo*).
And with the debut of the Thor 12" figure, HT's Captain America: The First Avenger [tagged] just cements yet another inevitablea step towards an entire line-up of The Avengers, IMHO. A strong closing comes in the form of the animated Space Pirate Captain Harlock [blogged] who gets the 1/6-treatment, as does video game giants Metal Gear Solid (both of which has seen incarnations with RAH / Medicom Toy releases). Exciting stuff for 2011, no doubt!
And rounding off the year of 2010 with an atom-blast, was Hot Toy's 10th Anniversary Exhibition - a 3-day Christmas-weekend extravaganza exhibiting their entire line-up of releases, both existing and upcoming!. Man, I would have loved to been there! (But HT does not know I even exist, and i actually have zero HT-new figures - so I shed but man-tears silently). Above is a quick video overview of the hall by Eddie Wong, and you are to CLICK THRU to view a huge selection of 1/6th-scaled goodness unveiled at the show!

Hot Toys rein with their comicbook property, this time under the MARVEL Comics banner, featuring the (log awaited) Iron Man Mark V (Suitcase Armor / launched end-December), a proto-sculpt of IRON MONGER (from first movie / "proto"because it was displayed unfinished, so maybe it never made the production line?), a very sweet live-action movie THOR (grip that hammer, boy! LOL) and a "classic" Spiderman (previously released in 1/6th by Medicom Toy). And not to be left out, HT continues their Batman-license with a couple of 10th Anniversary Exclusive Item releases for the event: SCARECROW and DEMON BATMAN set (from the "Batman Begins" movie, Arkham Aslyum basement-scene - remember?). Pretty awesome line-up, if you ask me!
IRON MAN MARK 5 (from the 2nd Iron Man movie)
IRON MONGER Sculpt / Prototype (from the first Iron Man movie)
THOR (from the live-action movie)
SPIDERMAN
Hot Toys' core arena of release expertise is movie character licenses (old time collectors will no doubt remember the early days when they had actor's bootleg likenesses in Military figure-releses *snigger*) and they continue and expand upon their portfolio with newly announced licenses (top of post) and the following nuggets of toy-coolness!
TRON with LIGHTCYCLE bloged)
The Dude! Eeerr.. I meant "KEVIN FLYNN"
BARNEY ROSS from The EXPENDABLES (blogged)
BRUCE LEE in ENTER THE DRAGON (going head-on again with Enterbay)
INDIANA JONES from Raiders of the Lost Ark
(previously released by Sideshow Collectibles and Medicom Toy)
FRIEND
10th Anniversary Exclusive Item: 20th Century Boys: "Friend" Collectible Figure
ALICE FROM RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE (BioHazard 5)
JILL VALENTINE
Will you judge me if I mentioned I am overjoyed HT managed to release a Milla Jovovich-"Alice" figure? As both the AFTERLIFE and BioHazard 5 game line (which I do not really care for, sorry), she joins an armored JILL VALENTINE. On the music front, Hot Toys' MICHAEL JACKSON licensee-odyssey continues with the launch of the BEAT IT figute. I am sure there are plenty more releases, including a surprising Michael Lau figure - but I guess we can drool on with what we have in 1/6th, for now ...
