TOYSREVIL: How did this crossover come about? What was its genesis and your personal connection to MOTU?
KATUN: This crossover came together very organically through conversations with Mattel about finding a way to reinterpret Masters of the Universe through my own visual language. MOTU is one of those properties that’s deeply rooted in childhood imagination bold characters, clear good vs evil, and an epic fantasy tone that stays with you. Growing up, He-Man wasn’t just a toy; it was a whole universe. Revisiting Eternia now as an artist was both nostalgic and creatively refreshing it allowed me to honor the original designs while injecting my own stylized, playful, slightly offbeat Katun aesthetic into them.
TOYSREVIL: Are the orders exclusive to 4-stages.com or will they be available elsewhere?
KATUN: At launch, the figures are available for pre order via https://4-stages.com/shop/ which is our official platform for this release. That said, we’re always open to working with selected partners and retailers moving forward, especially those who genuinely support designer toys and the culture around them.
Did you folks know there was to be a "BATTLE CAT"? Seen here are images of the first sample prototype of the 26-incher (gasp) ... " Since the entire project is self funded, we had to make a few adjustments and reduce some parts due to cost limitations." shared @katun_.
"The original idea was to have a 12-inch He-Man able to stand next to Battle Cat and look absolutely epic as a display piece. From proportions to stance, everything was designed with that shelf presence in mind.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it commercially viable, so I made the tough call to pull it from the collection before release. That said… I still think he looks pretty sick...
Maybe this version stays a one-off, maybe something similar happens in the future, who knows. Just wanted to share it here with fellow MOTU lovers who might appreciate the concept." shared @katun_.
TOYSREVIL: Are you Team Eternia or Team Skeletor?
KATUN: This is a tough one, but if I had to choose, I’d say Team Eternia. That said, Skeletor is impossible not to love. He’s chaotic, dramatic, and visually iconic. Honestly, MOTU wouldn’t be MOTU without him, so maybe I’m secretly cheering from both sides of the battlefield.
